New Design Plans Emerge for Met Square Project

For those interested in the latest in MDM Development’s plans for the Met Square project downtown, some much anticipated information has finally been shared. According to a recent article from The Next Miami,  NBWW Architects released a couple of images of the proposed pool deck at MDM’s Met Square (check them out here). This multi-use project was initially slated for a 192-room hotel, anchored by a 1,780 seat movie theater and 37,666-square-feet of retail and restaurant space. Now, the developers are planning to replace the hotel with a 393-unit residential tower.

Last month, the Met Square project was in the news after earning approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in regards to the tower’s height. Met Square was one of four Miami-Dade projects that received interim advisories from the FAA, stating that initial findings showed that the structures “exceed obstruction standards” and/or would create a problem for air navigation, according to an article from The Real Deal. However, developers of the 545-foot Met Square received notice that their project was approved just last month.

Although there isn’t a lot of information on the details of the residential tower at Met Square, Ian Swanson of MDM Development recently stated, “We continue to work towards beginning construction on Met Square, the culminating component of the multi-billion dollar, master-planned Metropolitan Miami project.” In January, a $42 million construction loan was issued for the project. Hopefully that means more information will be forthcoming for the eagerly awaiting community.
